Bryson DeChambeau Wins The 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented By Mastercard By One Shot

ORLANDO, Fla. – A very special win today for World No. 11 Bryson DeChambeau as he wins his eighth PGA TOUR victory at the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard.

DeChambeau, who is known for his respect for golf’s history, said winning Arnold Palmer’s tournament would be something special. As he spoke on the 18th green, and was presented with the trophy, he couldn’t help but get emotional.

“It’s beyond my wildest dreams for Mr. Palmer ‘s event,” said DeChambeau. “I came here as an amateur, he gave me an invitation and I loved this golf course the minute I arrived and I love the atmosphere and I love the fans, I loved what Mr. Palmer did with this place and what he’s done and his legacy he’s left here. It’s quite amazing.”

“This tournament has been nothing but class every year I’ve been here and the best players come to play and the golf course conditions play like a U.S. Open. I know that’s what Mr. Palmer would like and you have to play boldly to win and I was able to do that and it’s an honor to get it done here finally.”

DeChambeau entered the final round one shot behind third-round leader Lee Westwood. DeChambeau shot 67-71-68-71=277 (-11) and made a 5-foot par putt on the final hole for one-shot victory over Westwood.

One of the phrases Mr. Palmer used was play boldly to win. DeChambeau made sure he did just that to win the tournament.

“I took advantage of the holes that I was supposed to take advantage of today and I got a little unlucky on 16 but I held my head high and was able to persevere through and hit great shots coming in.”

DeChambeau, entertained fans on the weekend at Bay Hill’s par-5 No. 6, driving it 370 yards over the water on Saturday and 377 yards on Sunday.

Starting the final round with a bogey, DeChambeau then made birdies at four and six. He used his strength multiple times to hit out of the deep rough, save shots and made all pars the second nine.

Westwood’s previous best finish at the API was in 2006 when he tied for 5th. He started the final round with two bogies and a birdie (par-5 sixth hole) on the front nine. He posted one birdie and a bogey at the 14th on the back nine.

Corey Conners, 29, who was tied with DeChambeau entering the final round in second place, finished third in his third consecutive start at the Arnold Palmer Invitational – he missed the cut the past two years while shooting a combined 9-over in four rounds. Conners posted a final-round 74 to finish at -8.
